Revised Guideline Hourly Rates 2024

The last recommendations for the Guideline Hourly Rates were published in 2021.  On 1 December 2023, the Master of the Rolls confirmed that from 1 January 2024 the rates will increase as part of continued costs reforms sweeping across the England & Wales legal system.

To ensure that your lay clients are aware of these rate increases practitioners must ensure that they inform their lay client’s as soon as possible.  Practitioners are encouraged to consider these rates every year as Sir Geoffrey Vos, Master of the Rolls and Chair of the Civil Justice Council and Head of Civil Justice has confirmed that he would welcome an annual increase.  The profession has recently seen the extension to the fixed recoverable costs (FRC), so how much impact it will have could be questioned.  However, there are a multitude of cases which pre-exist the (FRC) or will exceed £100,000 so the increase is to be welcomed.
