I have been working in Legal Costs for nearly fifteen years having expertise in cost recovery, specifically inter partes and publicly funded costs, opposing claims for costs, cost management, and advising solicitors in their own client costs.
I have a degree in politics and a graduate diploma in law.
I worked for the Treasury Solicitors at management level during the Jackson reforms in 2013. I have experience in dealing with high value inter partes cases in notable claims defending the Government Legal Department specifically in immigration, Judicial Review, prison service, personal injury, employment and inquest cases. I also delivered training at the cusp of the Jackson reforms to the Government Legal Departments staff and their respective consultants.
I have delivered lectures on QOCS [Qualified One Way Cost Shifting] to fee earners within the respective departments of the Ministry of Defence, Home Office and the Prison Service to aid the management of their cases. Additionally I have been in charge of preparing a quarterly periodical magazine called Cost Insight received by various government departments in management of their legal cases.
I have represented clients at Detailed Assessment Hearings in inter partes and publicly funded cases. I have experience of drafting budgets/precedent H preparation with solicitors; in high value cases up to £150,000 and giving representation at costs case management conferences. I also have experience of drafting Supreme Court cases for my clients. My other roles include working on employment, public liability, and industrial disease matters with a value of up to £250,000 as well as criminal and extradition billing, CRM7s and High Court criminal billing.
I am a specialist at drafting event-based very high costs cases, both single and leading/two counsel models, for my legally aided clients. I conduct seminars and training for fee earners on the new legal aid CCMS portal and I attend and give training on the relatively new Care Case Fee Scheme in high cost cases.
