Experienced Law Costs Draftsman / Costs Lawyers – Birmingham, Chatham – Kent, London & Manchester.

Cost Law Services Limited is a fast expanding nationwide, specialist Cost Drafting Company with over 30 Costs Draftsman and Costs Lawyers. We are looking for experienced Costs Draftsman/Costs Lawyers who have gained extensive experience in drafting legal aid bills and inter -partes bills originating for Public funding.

 

The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge and experience of drafting bills and also excellent negotiation skills. The company is looking for a Law Costs Draftsman/Costs Lawyer with significant experience in Inter- Partes and Legal aid billing and is looking to grow with a forward thinking practice embracing change in the legal profession..

 

Experience in drafting bills in one or more of the following practice areas of law is an advantage; Actions Against the Police Court of Protection Clinical Negligence, Family and Child Care, Housing Litigation, Immigration, Public law and Personal Injury matters.

 

Key Essential Skills and Personal Attributes:

 

The Candidate must have

• A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Law Costs Draftsman and or be a qualified Costs Lawyer.
• Experience in drafting Legal Aid bills for various areas of law;
• Experience in drafting Legal Aid Claims including High Cost Case plans;
• Experience on the Legal Aid Agency on line portal - CCMS;
• Experience in Inter Partes billing (preferred but, not essential);
• A good understanding of the Civil Legal Aid Agency Costs guidance and billing provisions and relevant Legal Aid Rule;
• Have proven IT skills and ability to adapt to new technology;
• Able to demonstrate strong administrative and organisational skills;
• Self-motivated to work independently and as part of a team with ‘can do attitude;
• Excellent communication skills;
• A positive approach to working under pressure and in a busy environment;

 

Key Tasks:

 

• Drafting Legal Aid Bills (3 column);
• To complete Legal Aid Claims (Claim 1’s/Claim 1a’s/ Claim 2’s and CCMS Claims);
• To prepare for Assessment (N258A; N258D etc.)
• To complete post –assessment work;
• To liaise and advise fee earners and support staff in relation to the variety of legal aid, legal costs matters;
• Drafting High Case Plans
• To use CCMS and prepare claims on CCMS where necessary;
• To be have a depth of knowledge of the relevant Legal Aid Rules and Procedures.
