I am a Costs Lawyer with over 25 years’ experience in the legal profession. I became an Associate Law Costs Draftsman in 1999 and a Costs Lawyer in 2011.
Education
Upon leaving school I began my employment in the accounts department of a large high street firm of solicitors in Ashford, Kent.
Career
My main responsibilities were dealing with the financial transactions for the sale and purchases of commercial and residential properties, bank reconciliation, investment’s and liaising with the partners regarding monthly reports. I later progressed to drafting larger Bills of Costs for the family, personal injury and criminal departments.
I then joined Hickmans Legal Costing Services Ltd, where I was Head of the Family Costing department. This role entailed the training and management of other employees along with drafting all types of Claim1s, Claim1As, case plans, and bill of costs together with the negotiating of inter parties costs.
Thereafter, I joined Kain Knight as the Assistant Manager in their Canterbury office. I was the firm’s Head of Court of Protection dealing with general management costs, appointment of deputy and statutory Will applications along with legal aid section 21A applications. I was also the team leader for the legal aid billing team training many of the team in Court of Protection and judicial review matters. I also conducted external Court of Protection and legal aid seminars to various clients.
I joined the Chatham office of Cost Law Services Ltd. in January 2018 where I have dealt with inter parties judicial review and housing matters. In addition to the aforementioned, I have experience in the following fields: CCMS cases, high cost case plans, points of dispute and replies, attending detailed assessment and CCMC hearings, and costs budgeting.
I have been commended for the clear layout of my bills and been successful in claiming substantial enhancements on the legal aid guideline hourly rates on various cases.

Civil Court
JM & Ors – The challenging of the legality of the SSHD’s Detained Fast Track process with regards to potential vulnerable individuals.
I was also involved in a complex Wardship matter where a successful order was obtained to protect a child who had family members fighting for ISIS in Syria.
Interests
I enjoy spending time with family and friends, eating out, watching films and sports, clay pigeon shooting and trout fishing. I have recently completed my first 10k run and continue to train for my next 10k race.
